City honors 3,000 lives lost that day
Philadelphia will do its part today in honoring the nearly 3,000 people killed on 9/11 by holding PhillyServes Day as part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance, which marks the tragedy.
Mayor Nutter and representatives of more than 85 organizations, led by Global Citizen and MLK 365, were to be on hand at City Hall courtyard today for a volunteer fair, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering information about how to sign up for hundreds of ongoing volunteer opportunities in the city.
Also, volunteers from Greater Philadelphia Cares, SEPTA, AARP and City Year will hand out free books at City Hall and at SEPTA stops for parents to read to their children.
